instant motivation

nothing like watching the 25th anniversary of the walt disney world marathon to get motivated for chicago! i swear, every time i watch a race it gets me so excited and ready for the next challenge. and yesterday, i was fortunate enough to be able to watch friends and family accomplish this incredible feat – and crushed it may i add. between seeing all of the runners around mile 5 at magic kingdom to watching them approach mile 25…there were so many emotions?! and honestly after watching everyone, i just can’t believe that my “marathon year” is here.

so naturally, i decided to go for a quick run to kick start this marathon year of training – averaging a 9:26 minute mile. now, i am going to start my training of 10 minutes of running and 1 minute of walking as we kick off the year, that way i can get used to the cadence of the run/walk method for racing. knowing my knees, i need a bit of time to get acclimated to that method and to feel comfortable leading into those longer races. and thankfully, i have a plenty of races coming up to continue to build up my distance and practice. from my first race of the year in two weeks to a couple half marathons…i am ready for the challenge. but i know it’s not going to be the easiest…so starting early is my best bet. i know what my body can take, so i am planning to adjust accordingly and potentially build up to those higher mileage runs a little earlier than most. that way i can properly recover as the marathon approaches in october.

only 2 weeks until the park ave 5k in winter park, and the countdown begins to my first marathon. be sure to visit my team bright pink fundraising page to learn why i chose team bright pink. i can’t believe that i am already at $1,023 of my $1,750 goal. additional information about the organization is also available at brightpink.org.

until next time
xoxo
