traveling to new york is always one of my favorite things to do. so couple it with attending a wine party at my favorite wine store in nyc, NOTHING BETTER!
to say that i was excited to attend the grand tour wine party at verve wine during my last visit is a complete understatement. and bonus, they were showcasing not only the featured monthly shipment but also their limited edition wine box collaboration with compagnie nyc. holy smokes – both were delicious!
this month’s featured shipment focused on santa barbara, which also happens to be one of my favorite places that produces wine. ever since i was able to travel out that way for work, i instantly fell in love with santa barbara and their wines. and this month’s box has some incredible selections – my favorite being the 2016 sandhi chardonnay. i was actually surprised because chardonnay typically isn’t my favorite varietal of wine, but honestly i shouldn’t be surprised as this wine was founded by rajat parr and sashi moorman!
i love the first line of the description for this wine on our handout, “sandhi embraces the union essential for wine production: man, earth and vine.” this wine has this incredible zest to it – and is recommended to be paired with creamy pasta dishes, chicken and more.
moving on to the limited edition box, wow?! when i first learned about this collaboration box, i was immediate sold. when i hear natural wine – my ears instantly perk up! so (naturally) i decided to purchase this box pretty much right when it got announced.
during the tasting party, compagnie nyc even paired some of the wines with great tasting bites – a delicious cheese & pepper popcorn with the lucien albrecht crément d’alsace rosé and a charred beet grain salad with the domaine de l’horizon mar i muntanya, rousillion. and wow, these both were the most perfect pairing. while these wines were delicious, i definitely can say my favorite of the bunch was the jauma archie’s shiraz, basket range from south australia. this wine reminded me so much of one of my most favorites wines in the world, ochota barrels, the green room. so natural and light – pure deliciousness in my book!
