this past weekend wasn’t just any ordinary weekend, but it was keith’s birthday weekend. from a wonderful staycation at the hilton bonnet creek resort (with an upgrade) to a wonderful dinner with friends, i wanted to make sure this was a weekend to remember for him.
one of the highlights of the weekend was dinner with a bunch of keith’s closest friends at jiko in jambo house at disney’s animal kingdom lodge resort. shocker, we picked a disney resort for dinner – however no one had ever been to this restaurant so we figured why not?! and wow, were we glad we picked this location. inspired by traditional african, indian and mediterranean cuisine, jiko really offered an assortment of food varieties to suit anyone’s taste.
keith and i started with one of our favorite appetizers, the charcuterie board. i’m pretty sure we’ve tried a charcuterie board at almost all of the disney properties that offer it – and the beauty, all of them are equally different. the perfect way to start off a meal. from there we each selected pretty different meals – myself choosing the well-known short rib dinner while keith opted to try the lamb shank. now i can’t speak to the lamb, which keith said was amazing (spoken by the completely cleared plate), but i can speak to the short ribs. mouth watering, this meal melts in your mouth especially when paired with a side of their delicious macaroni and cheese, i was in heaven. and we couldn’t have a meal without one of our other favorites – wine. with a 100% south african wine menu, we ended up boiling it down to two choices for the table: 2010 de trafford cabernet sauvignon and 2010 cederberg shiraz. both were absolutely delicious.

if you are looking for a great (and out of the ordinary) meal, be sure to check out jiko – the cooking place.
until next time
xoxo
