independence day run

whoa, well it’s been a little while since i’ve taken my last run. between family events to busy work schedules, i’ve been a little bit off of the routine workout schedule. but today was the kick start to beginning my workout routine again, especially with the track shack race series starting in just over a month. i seriously cannot wait to be a fanatic for a second year in a row – and i mean what better day is there to kick off that training than on independence day?!

despite it being extremely hot, even at 7:30 in the morning (thank you florida sun), i had a really great short easy run to get things started again. i didn’t want to jump into higher mileage right out of the gates and ease into it gradually, especially thinking ahead to having OUC half marathon later in the year. averaging a 9:55 minute pace for 1.25 miles, i really started to feel my stride again. i’m not going to lie, i was a little nervous that my knees would not feel as good as they did – seriously a major affect of four knee surgeries – but thank heavens for KT tape and my hoka one one clayton 2 shoes. these two things have seriously been my lifesavers throughout all of my running adventures. and let me tell you i cannot wait until the racing begins again. there is something about being on the starting line with those pre-race nerves, it really reminds me of my time as a gymnast. even though there are nerves, you know you’ve done everything you can leading up to the competition, or in this case “race day.” but it will be here before i know it.

and now to really enjoy this wonderful day where we celebrate our independence. i hope everyone has a safe and great holiday.

until next time
xoxo
